| VICKY WORKS ON HER
MATHS WITH ESCRITOR !!! |
Introduction :
Vicky, a student in 5eme (secondary school), works
on her mathematics with Escritor
on exercises previously prepared by her teacher. The following screen captures
relate the different steps of her "virtual" workbook in real time. Imagine
that the teacher who is looking at the writing sees it being displayed
progressively (at the student rythm), with all the erasings, drafts and
so on. He is a witness of what's coming out, as if he was behind the student,
but afterwards.
Vicky has just loaded the work file "som01.ecr", then
has worked by herself, out of range from the teacher's eyes. Later, the
teacher comes back to the student's virtual page and looks at it. |
The student's writing appears
in real time.
The teacher can see that Vicky makes a miscalculation.

|
|
Noting her own mistake, the student
erases the last result ...

|
... then corrects it but forgets
to write the last square bracket.
She is disturbed by her mistake in the global vision
of the calculous.

|
As she starts to write her second
calculous line,
Vicky realises that she has forgotten the bracket
and completes
(late) her first line with it.
Now she goes on a draft calculous.

|
Unfortunately, Vicky erases her
draft without having taken
the time to write the result.

|
She finishes her second line,
starts the next one, but one can see that she's waiting.
What's going on ?

|
Something doesn't please her
in her work, she erases everything
(too many doubts about the results, she prefers restarting
all from the begining
instead of verifying each calculous mixed in the writing).

|
In a flash, Vicky writes the
first line but forgets
again the final parenthesis (uh, not square brackets
this time ?).
She visibly works by memory.

|
While she reads her own lines
(one can note she's waiting),
she completes the parenthesis and makes a miscalculation
on the result
(she confuses with the above result that she has visibly
more memorized,
as she hadn't finished her previous draft).

|
|
She realises there's something
wrong, but where ? She erases everything ...

|
.... and goes on again for the
third time ! Phew, the final version appears.
The writing is steady and quite slow, Vicky verifies
everything instead of using her memory.
This time, she starts to write the results, then completes
with the rest of the line,
letting her not to forget the brackets.
She has acquired a method by herself,
now it's up to the teacher to comment on it and make
her go on this way.
Voilà, the "repeat" and "continue" buttons appear
at the bottom of the screen.
While the work was displaying,
the teacher could print the page at any time
in order to keep a physical trace of the current state,
slow down or speed up the writing.
|
Conclusion :
A real sheet of paper could never have allowed the
teacher to see the student's progress.
On the contrary, looking at the final product, he
should have thought that Vicky hadn't any problems with this kind of calculous
in mathematics ...and yet.
